Basic Teacher Summary
Baccalaureate Degree in English, Math, Science, Foreign Language, Music, Art, or History is not good enough anymore. To have a license, a person must have a certain number of hours from a college or university dedicated to indoctrination into the teaching profession. The problem that I have with this is methodology is that it does not guarantee that a person can teach. This only guarantees that a person has fulfilled the collegiate requirements. When I initially put this information on the website, this drew the greatest ire. By clicking on the text, you will be taken to the web pages that I took this from. I broke down the information based on the Sevier County School Website (www.sevier.org). · National Average Salary (2004): $46,597 for 200 days of work OR $232.99 per 7.5 hour-day OR $31 per hour and that is not including the benefits.
· National Average Salary (2007): $47,602
· Average Teacher Salary (Tennessee—2007): $42,076
· Beginning Teacher Salary (Tennessee—2007): $32,369 OR $21.58 per hour
As a basis of comparison, the following information gives a great comparison. · Yearly Salary of a Wal-Mart Worker making $8.00 an hour and allowed to work ONLY 40 hours per week: $16,640.
· Yearly Salary of a Construction Laborer making $10.00 an hour and allowed to work 60 hours all 52 weeks of the year and gets paid time and a half for all hours over 40: $36,400 Donald Simanek is emeritus professor of physics at Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania.
